The Clinical Investigators Summit (TCIS Africa): A Pan-African Journey Shaping the Future of Clinical Research

From Investigator Platform to Continental Marketplace

TCIS Africa began with a clear and powerful mission: to create a platform for African investigators.

When the first edition was held in Nigeria (2020/2021), the goal was straightforward but urgent- bring investigators together, amplify their voices, and create space for honest conversations about conducting clinical research on the continent.

It was about visibility. It was about representation. It was about leadership.

But by the second edition, something remarkable happened.

The conversations grew bigger. The demand expanded.

The ecosystem responded.

What started as a platform primarily for investigators quickly evolved into something far more dynamic-a continental marketplace for collaboration.

Today, TCIS Africa is not just for investigators. It is where:

  • Pharmaceutical companies engage directly with African research leaders

  • CROs connect with high-performing and emerging sites

  • Regulators join open discussions on harmonization and policy

  • Policymakers contribute to shaping sustainable research frameworks

  • Academic institutions and global health organizations build meaningful partnerships

  • Laboratories and diagnostic partners

  • Logistics and supply chain providers

  • Technology and data management teams

This evolution reflects a fundamental truth: clinical research in Africa cannot grow in silos. It requires alignment across the entire ecosystem- labs, logistics, regulation, operations, and leadership.

A Pan-African Journey

Over seven editions, TCIS Africa has traveled across the continent, reflecting the diversity

and strength of Africa’s research landscape.

  • Nigeria (2020/2021)- Where it all began.

  • Accra, Ghana (2022) -Expanding conversations across West Africa.

  • Mombasa, Kenya (2023) - Engaging East African investigators and stakeholders.

  • Egypt (2024) -Connecting North Africa’s growing research community.

  • Dakar, Senegal (2025) -Our first francophone host country, marking a milestone in inclusion and linguistic diversity.

  • South Africa (2026) -The home of our 7th edition.

Each Summit has deepened dialogue, strengthened networks, elevated African investigator visibility, and reinforced a powerful message:

Research excellence exists across Africa -and leadership should too.

With every edition, the community grows. With every partnership, our impact multiplies.

Why TCIS Africa Matters

Africa holds extraordinary potential -diverse populations, expanding infrastructure, experienced investigators, and a growing regulatory environment.

Yet African voices remain underrepresented in global clinical research decision-making. TCIS Africa exists to change that narrative.

It provides a space where African investigators are not just participants - they are leaders. The Summit addresses real priorities shaping the future of research on the continent:

  • Investigator visibility

  • Site readiness and operational excellence

  • Regulatory harmonization and guidance

  • Ethical best practices

  • Capacity strengthening

  • Sustainable global partnerships

This is where ideas move beyond theory. Where introductions turn into collaborations.

Where Africa’s voice in global research becomes stronger and more influential.

Why South Africa?

South Africa has long been a cornerstone of clinical research in Africa. With advanced infrastructure, experienced investigators, strong academic institutions, and a robust regulatory framework, it represents one of the continent’s most mature research ecosystems.

Hosting the 7th edition here is intentional.

South Africa represents both opportunity and leadership. It offers a powerful setting for meaningful engagement between African and global stakeholders, while celebrating the continental journey TCIS Africa has taken.

From Nigeria to Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Senegal, and now South Africa, the message remains clear:

Africa is not waiting to be included. Africa is building, leading, and shaping its own research future.

Join the 7th Edition

TCIS Africa 2026 in South Africa promises to be a defining milestone -a week of learning, networking, strategy, and collaboration that continues to elevate African investigators and strengthen research capacity across the continent.
